LA Politics 101 with David Levitus

RSVP

Description

National politics gets all the attention but local governments wield a huge amount of power over our daily lives. LA County, with more than 10 million residents, is larger than all but eight states. And it's governed entirely by five County Supervisors and a popularly elected Sheriff and District Attorney. LA City and the 87 other cities in the County have total control over land use, development, and housing within their boundaries. And that's just beginning. Crazy, right? Confusing? Definitely.

Cut through the confusion and get all your questions about local government and politics answered through an interactive presentation by David Levitus. David will take all your questions and provide an overview of the official responsibilities of all our local governments and the power politics at work behind the scenes.

David's spent 15 years advocating and organizing for a better world through policies at the local, state, and federal levels. Along the way, he earned a Ph.D. in History focused on strategies to build progressive power and equitable cities. He recently founded LA Forward, which activates rising generations of Angelenos to join social justice movements that are fighting to transform Los Angeles into a fair, flourishing place for everyone.
