Description
This is a special screening of The Bail Trap, a Brave New Films documentary that gives a thorough overview of the money bail system while providing a personal look into how it negatively impacts the lives of so many.
In America, only 1 in 10 people can pay their bail and on any given day at least 46,000 Californians are incarcerated even though they have not yet been sentenced. This has lead to thousands of innocent and mostly poor people being held in jail pre-trial who risk losing their jobs, custody of their children, and even their lives simply because they can’t afford their bail.
By attending this screening, you’ll help send a clear message to CA legislators that your community is committed to fixing our broken bail system.
You’ll hear from: Anthony Turner about his personal experience and story with money bail; Raj Dillion, Deputy District Director with Senator Bob Hertzberg; Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater; and Devon Porter, ACLU Legal Fellow.
